Kiwibob's Engine
test stand

For years I've been messing around with engines
poorly bolted to scraps of wood and a piece of
wire to control engine speed.
One day I sat down and designed this "ultimate"
test stand, it is so simple; a piece of pine
about 15" x 6" or so, with another smaller
piece mounted above it. The fuel tank can be
raised or lowed with packing pieces, a screen
keeps the worst of the fuel off the RX etc.
I mounted an old RX, which was suspect for
flying, plus a "past its' use by date" battery,
and an old servo (it's an "OS" servo!!, how old
is
that?? I got the ally stand off EBay for about
£15, fits most engines, although there is only a
few mm clearance for the Saito 125, so maybe
it's
near it's limit . So I just use my TX as per normal, start the motor and
use the TX to control speed as if it were in a
plane.
This picture was taken while I was running in my
New Saito 125 FS, I had a very rich mixture and
left the glow driver connected

This is a close-up of the engine stand, I
suppose if I had some basic engineering tools, I
could make it for a few quid!!
